Dojo Classics - The Dustjackets Of Mars!

The definitive cover images associated with the Barsoom series were created by the late great Frank Frazetta for the dust jackets of the Doubleday hardcover editions. So impressive and influential are these images that the producers of John Carter made a conscious effort to not imitate these designs. Here is his fantastic art featuring John Carter, Dejah Thoris and the other denizens and creatures of Mars.

And below are the covers with all their logo glory intact.

Frazetta did not finish the series though. It was up to Rich Corben to step in and supply cover art for the last volume. What it lacks in the sense of mystery and atmospphere Frazetta brought, it certainly makes up for in energy and vigor.

Rip Off

  1. The Frazetta painting used for the cover of A PRINCESS OF MARS is my favorite Frazetta painting. I had it hanging on my wall for years. Beautiful work.

    1. I almost agree. His Mars work is among his most atmospheric.
