The House of Mystery almost certainly hosted more great Berni Wrightson covers than any other comic magazine. Joe Orlando, the editor had "discoverd" Wrightson in a manner of speaking and certainly promoted him by featuring his delightfully gothic artwork on the covers of many a comic as well as many stories to boot. The DC mystery magazines had the great fortune to showcase many fine artists on the cover such as Neal Adams, Nick Cardy, Luis Dominques and many more. But it was the use of Wrightson and his up and coming peer Mike Kaluta that gave Joe Orlando's books that special something.
Wrightson was also tapped to create covers for two Warner paperbacks showcasing The House of Mystery.
Berni's final The House of Mystery cover was in 1998 for a Vertigo special one-shot which took us back to the familiar locale.
Berni Wrightson never seemed more at home than when he was illustrating a cover for the House books or rendering the brothers Cain and Abel.
