Agents Of SWIPE!

I've opined on this blog before that I think the Tony Tallarico cover below was inspired by the much more famous Jim Steranko SHIELD cover above.

The SHIELD cover is a classic, so much so that it's been swiped numerous times.

The last one I found online, and it's a beaut. Actually I suppose these aren't swipes, but rather true homages as I doubt the creators don't imagine their target audience is unaware of the original.

  1. I've never seen that Charlton cover before. Thanks for pointing it out!

  2. A few years ago I chanced upon it at GCD and thought it looked like the classic Steranko image. I assumed Tallarico swiped it for his own purposes and a good swipe it was too...I thought. Then a little research showed me it was out before Steranko, so I can only assume that Steranko was the one inspired.

  3. I think what makes them great is studying and knowing what has been done before and being able to apply that knowledge to creating new works for new situations, characters, and settings. All of your examples are pretty good in that regard.

    Cheers!
