Art By Ernie!

Ernie Colon was a supreme craftsman who fabricated comics in all sorts of genres for all types of companies over a very long career. Here is the merest sampling of some of Colon's art harvested from the wilds of the internet.

  1. I thought they missed an opportunity on Arak by getting deZuniga to ink, attempting to make it look more like Conan,I guess, rather than lean into a stylist who would've given the character his own identity. I was once given some copies of Colon's layouts for Richie Rich (Harvey used to require their scripts be sketched like storyboards) and his scribbles were really energetic and animated. "Energetic" is how I'd describe his approach; his comics were bursting with it.

    1. I totally agree. "Vivid" is the word I'd attach to it. So much of modern comic art has the form without the essence. Colon's pages bristled lines that wanted to dance unless he was constricted by the most potent of inkers. I like that combo too, the best of both worlds, but pure Colon is hard to beat.
