Michael Gough, the superb character actor has passed away. Here's a
link to an overview of the career of the late Mr.Gough. He's stolen so many movies away from so many big actors, it's difficult to remember them all.
I most remember Gough mostly for his delicious turn as the mad scientist in
Konga and his later role as the wildly outraged townsman in
Trog.
He showed up in many a flick, always with that distinctive voice and always grimacing as if those around him gave him physical pain. He was a delightfully grumpy screen presence.

Was rewatching Konga last night! (picked up the MGM dvd in a Dollar Store!)
ReplyDeleteEven with silly dialogue (and painted-on grey temples) he still dominated any scene he was in.
My favorite role, though, is as Nutski in The Avengers ep "The Correct Way to Kill". His scenes with Steed (Patrick Macnee) are priceless!
I'm not much of an Avengers TV fan, so I've never seen that episode, but I'll more than take your word that it's a great one. I need to look it up.

It's not often you get to see Gough do humor, but he had a real gift for it!

Gough enters at 6:33...
He is quite lively in that. His eyes were glimming all over the place, some neat touches.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link.
