Monsters Of The King - Groot!

Everybody knows Groot. After his star turn in the Guardians of the Galaxy comic books and two (count 'em two) big time Hollywood movies, Groot is a household name, likely the most famous of the Kirby monsters.

But it was not always thus. Originally the cute Groot was merely another alien invader, a monster who fell victim to the enemy of most wooden thing -- termites. Since then, he's been revised as an ongoing character. As cute as little Groot is, I find a soft spot in my heart for the deadly original.

 More monsters are coming tomorrow.

  1. I shall really have to consider getting this book. I bought the Monster Masterworks volume back in the '90s, but one or two pages had been scanned from actual comics ('70s reprints at that) and were a bit washed-out.

    1. These are hefty books at a hefty price, but they are full of Kirby wonder. And there's so much more than the giant monsters too who are at the end of the first volume and the beginning of the second. Sci-fi galore!

  2. Where Monsters Dwell, Where Creatures Roam…Much enjoying the giant 4-color Kirby Monsterfest this month Rip…Thank you!!!

Speaking of giant monsters – Svengoolie is showing Tarantula tomorrow night (Saturday) – as in a giant, freaking Tarantula crawling all over the 1955 landscape (John Agar is forced to put the kibosh-squash on things once again.) Plus: Svengoolie has altered his timeslot on ME-TV to 2 hours earlier (good news for us old guys who can’t stay up till 11:00pm anymore.)

    1. Noticed the time shift and I watch it on DVR so it usually doesn't effect me. Tarantula is awesome as are all those 50's monster flicks. I will have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.
