Pure Venom!

It is stunning to me that it's been well over three decades since the introduction of the creature we now know as Venom. The beastie of course came into our view when Spider-Man went away for a short time to fight on Battleworld in the first of the Secret Wars. The stunt was that each hero would return from the fight changed substantially, but of course that was mostly gas. Spidey came home in a new costume, one which was starkly simple and actually quite handsome. It was not better than his classic web-filled look, but it was nifty for a time.

But it was not as it seemed of course and the costume was not a costume but an alien which had attached itself to Peter Parker in a brutal symbiotic relationship. When Parker tried to rid himself of the parasite which came to be called Venom, the struggle was rough because there were echoes of withdrawal in the experience.

Later the Venom symbiote joined forces with the numbskull Eddy Brock and manifested in a more ferocious and villainous manner. Fans loved it and Venom was here to stay. Eventually the character has been showcased in its own big-screen epic and reports are that success is enormous.

The movie stars Tom Hardy and for that reason alone I'm interested, as he's one of my favorite modern day actors ever since his amazing turn as Bane in the Batman movies. I'm curious to see what he does with his tenure as another comic book character -- the malicious Venom.

Rip Off
