Erase To The Past!

Marvel recently reprinted the debut story of one of the most offbeat villains of any age -- The Living Eraser. I was recently reminded of the Eraser by this reprint and some doings at another website.

The Living Eraser first appeared in the pages of Tales to Astonish #49. He was an alien agent from Dimension Z and was the precursor to an alien incursion. He empowered with technology that allowed him to transport people to Dimension Z, but not all at once.

As seen above, he'd swipe at a person removing them a small bit at a time until they were all "erased" or transported. He battled Giant-Man and the Wasp and was defeated. So well in fact it was many years before he popped up again.

That was in the pages of Marvel Two-In-One #15 where he ran afoul of The Thing and Morbius the Living Vampire. Needless to say the Living Eraser lost yet again and disappeared for a very very long time until he popped up in the pages of Sensational She-Hulk #37, though he didn't rate a cover appearance. And as far as I can discern that was it for the Living Eraser.

He had no connection to this 60's Batman foe who did not in fact erase anyone at all despite what the dramatic cover details. His weapons were his extra-sharp shoes. (No, I'm not kidding.) To read about the DC Eraser check out this link.

  1. I remember MLJ/Archie Comics also had an Eraser who went up against the Mighty Crusaders.
