Cap in space! This great poster image was just a tiny part of the wildly entertaining
Captain America's Bicentennial Battles tabloid special. It was a special time and a properly special comic book offering. I like the shield variation especially well. And I don't think anyone ever drew the rockiness of outer space asteroids any better.
Rip Off
Kirby really knew how to put on a show. He helped create the template for Marvel Summer Annuals that turned them into blockbuster events; before that Silver Age annuals were mostly themed reprints, which were great, but Kirby seemed to know how to fill the pages with the sort of content you couldn't get in your regular monthly books. The treasury size seemed tailor made for him. Other than the crossover punchouts that came later, I can't remember too many of these that were wall-to-wall new material designed for the big size. Imagine if he'd done the Fourth World as a series of Treasuries...
