100 Days Of The King - Day 60

Nobody drew technology like Kirby. That's an undeniable fact. He was able to make all the abstract twists and turns in his drawings feel like they actually are part of a working mechanism, even though we had little understanding of what that mechanism could do.

There's a depth to Kirby's raw pencils that really makes them compelling in their own right.

  1. Sometimes I wish these ones with all the wacky colors were done with just a few colors, something more realistic looking, you know?

    1. More muted colors are my cup of tea too. I point especially to the earliest issues of Captain Victory which have a very unusual color scheme and a very successful one.

  2. Hey Rip, I agree with you, and every different creation felt like a different machine that had another purpose, even though they were all obviously beholden to Kirby's style. At first glance, it is reminiscent of one of his watercolors, but I think it's computer colored. Chimeradave's comment makes me wonder if these are Kirby colors (or based on Kirby colors).

    1. Someone else colored this piece much more recently. They are very bright.
