Of course the definitive cover images associated with the Barsoom series were created by the late great Frank Frazetta for the dust jackets of the Doubleday hardcover editions.
So impressive and influential are these images that the producers of John Carter made a conscious effort to not imitate these designs.

Frazetta didnt' finish the series though. It was up to Rich Corben to step in and supply cover art for the last volume. What it lacks in the sense of mystery Frazetta brought, it certainly makes up for in vigor.
