Here is a delightful Captain Atom image by Jim Starlin and Al Milgrom. This is a better and more complete scan of the magnificent art than when I featured it in this post. The striking similarity between the Captains Marvel and Atom is well on display in this awesome illustration. Cosmic baby!

I've always liked Starlin but Milgrom always left me cold (though I liked his Marvel Fanfare shtick)...this pairing is better than I would have expected....
ReplyDeleteI think Milgrom is Starlin's best inker. They synthesis of the two together is better than either one alone. The textures Milgrom added to Starlin's lines are soft but fully resolved. Like Royer on Kirby, Milgrom seems to know exactly which of Starlin's lines to enhance.

Wonderful illustration! It's got that Ditko inspired background, plus Atom looks a bit like Captain Marvell. I do agree that Milgrom was his best inker, especially on the Captain Marvel run.
