Peter Graves Saved The World!

He did it many many times in fact.

As many have noted, Peter Graves passed away this weekend. I never much watched Peter Graves and company on Mission Impossible, but I have seen an episode or two over the decades. They are pretty entertaining by and large.

But aside from his wonderful Captain Clarence Oveur in Airplane! (which is my favorite Graves character), I remember him for his 50's sci-fi efforts. They were all mostly small budget items and mostly a lot of fun in stupid clunky ways.

Graves presented a usually competent but earnest hero, who once he'd been awakened to the threat did what he could to save the day. Whether the threat was bug-eyed killers from space, giant voracious grasshoppers, commies, or giant fanged cabbages, you could count on Peter Graves to save the world.

Above is a great poster gallery of some great fun Graves flicks.
