I've wanted to get a gander at the vintage Archie series Cosmo the Merry Martian for quite some time, ever since I read a positive reaction to the series by Tony Isabella. Drawn by Bob White, the series (based on the covers) always seemed to have a jaunty inviting flavor to it and given the way that Archie can turn on the charm with characters when they choose to do so, I always imagined it would be a fun read. I was right and I got to discover that for a very nice price. Archie has reprinted the entire canon of Cosmo in a single exceedingly well-priced volume. You get all six issues of the original run from the 1950's when flying saucers and outer space ruled the day as well as more recent tales from various Archie comics featuring the alien visitor. This was done to grab attention for a new series, and a new take on the character and you get the debut issue of that new trend in this tome as well. It's really quite a handsome book and highly recommended for comic book readers of all ages.
(This lush alternate cover is not included in the collection for some reason.) |
Here are the covers of the issues included. You get all these tales as well as three other short stories from other recent comics.
