Just recently stumbled across this amazing homage to the classic
Justice League of America cover by Mike Sekowsky and Murphy Anderson. The Watchmen are a fabulous creation, but I'm glad their inspirations, the Action Heroes created largely during the tenure of Charlton editor Dick Giordano are given their due by artist
Nick Perks.
Here's the original in all its Silver Age glory. If you're interested I took an extensive look at the DC Crisis comics several years ago here at this very blog.
Check it out.

What an awesome homage!
ReplyDeleteOne of the classic all-time cover designs. So many characters, all fitting beautifully.

Gosh that woman in danger looks sexy on the Wings Comic cover. I'd rescue her anyday.
ReplyDeleteYep.

its an great homage but i am a bit peeved that the Comics Code stamp was also copied over. It seems like a complete reversal against what "watchmen" meant. as far as censorship in comics went (and goes)
ReplyDeleteI get that, but using the Code stamp in a self-conscious ironic way says a bunch too. Now at this distance the Comics Code is a curious relic of a bygone day when people were terrified of the transforming power of young people.
DeleteOh wait, that's today too.
