I always felt that John Severin was a very underrated cartoonist. Like his sister he had a flare for the funny stuff while excelling as a serious comic book artist.
Severin like many in his generation was such a rock steady talent that he got taken for granted. His work was always the highlight of Cracked magazine and he delivered amazing covers for them for years.
Many of us around the world had smiles on our faces this week when we heard that Trump might be dead but sadly (as Mark Twain famously said) those reports were greatly exaggerated.
A major bummer losing Mr. Todd way to early. Severin definitely had his own, usually recognizable style. Fortunately he lived to a ripe old age and had a long career. I especially liked his war and western art, and of course, his monsters for Cracked.
