100 Days Of The King - Day 48
This gorgeous splash page from Jack "King" Kirby's favorite comic book story "The Pact" from the pages of New Gods #7 has special resonance for me now that my idyllic time with my beloved Lizzie is a sweet memory. These exquisite moments are to be treasured for what they are as they will only be for that tender time. As I was posting this news broke that Joan Lee, the wife of Stan Lee has passed away. My prayers and thoughts go out to Stan. Enjoy life my friends.
Here's that same scrumptious image in its raw pencil form from the hand of the master.

So sorry to hear about Mrs. Lee…Stan himself is 94 (!) Let’s hope he soldiers on for a good, long while yet…Even the whole thing with the movie cameos – nobody could do that but Stan. I see his little brother Larry Lieber is 85…
ReplyDeleteThe Golden Age of comics is just about to be beyond living memory. Stan was a mere teen himself at the time, barely older than the core readership of the day. The pros were young men but still we lose them all the time.

Sort of the same thing with a lot of the old blues musicians. You lose a guy like Chuck Berry, B. B. King, Albert Collins or Muddy – but then have to hope someone like Gary Clark Jr. comes along to pick up the torch…But yeah, the original innovators will always be irreplaceable…
ReplyDeleteComics in the beginning were so primal in their essentials. That has been lost a bit as the craftsmanship has improved but alas the energy has diminished.

100 days is not enough...
ReplyDeleteIt's not really. I already have more than enough stuff, and find more all the time as things occur to me.
