I was a huge fan of the digest magazines Amazing and Fantastic. I wish I had more issues, but the ones I have are rich with great stories and some superby spot illustrations. The covers by the likes of Stephen Fabian and others were like as not vivid and memorable.
Above is a trio of Fantastic covers featuring the sullen Conan! One is by Fabian, another by the great Jeff Jones and the other is by an artist I don't know though it's signed "Roland".
Rip Off
I, too, loved those old digest books. Especially the covers and the spots. Those were some great days at the newsstand.
