This is a exceedingly cool motif for a cover design. I don't know for sure, but I'd guess this design is the work of Carmine Infantino who got Adams to draw it and in later years both Kane and Ordway swiped it.
The "burst thru the sign" motif in comics goes all the way back to Detective #38 (Robin's first appearance) Angling the point-of-view instead of doing it head-on is more dynamic and accommodates a large group better.
True that. Maybe a gallery of just bust-outs would be fun to do. Robin had that circus performer thing to make his make sense. The JLA ones are just offbeat.
