When Warren Magazines was forced to discontinue its potent run of The Spirit, we are all quite fortunate that Denis Kitchen and his Kitchen Sink outfit was there to pick up the magazine and keep it going without a break in the numbering, the reason the first Kitchen Sink Spirit Magazine is numbered seventeen. The mag became a richer experience with outstanding new covers by Will Eisner and all sorts of background features by Cat Yronwode as well as looks at Lady Luck and Mr. Mystic, the features which had shared space with The Spirit so many years before.

I still remember buying the bulk of these as back issues decades ago. I taxed an already strained credit card to swing the deal and rarely have I felt more guilty spending our hard-earned money on my hobby. But at the time, in those pre-internet days, it was hard to let such deals pass, even if it did hobble the household economy for a bit. At least that's what I told myself them to balm my guilty conscience. But I still have them, so there's that.
