The Spirit -The Origin Years was a handsome (if all too brief) series from Kitchen Sink back in the early 90's which offered up the less familiar earliest stories of Will Eisner's hero. In was in these comics that I first encountered the Black Queen, Orang the Ape Man and Palyachi the Killer Clown. At $2.95 they were a bit stiff on price for the time, but the cardstock covers helped heal that wound a bit. Of all the companies that have published Spirit stories, there's no doubt in my mind that Kitchen Sink was the place that loved Will Eisner's creation best.
Rip Off
It's fascinating to watch Eisners style change as this series progresses.
ReplyDeleteSo many of those Golden Age artists were raw talented kids and their work matures with time.
DeleteThe cover of #4 looks like a scene from Planet Of The Apes.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Orang is an imposing figure.
