Here is an utterly wonderful illustration of Tarzan of the Apes by Spanish artist Benito Gallego. I love the sense of power in the figure. I first found Gallego's artwork on the short-lived Anthem series written by Roy Thomas.

Gallego channels the supreme power of John Buscema with more skill than anyone I've ever seen. He especially likes to illustrate Conan.

Here's a link which features a bunch more of his wonderful artwork.

Rip: My, he really channels Buscema, as you say. He's got the power thing down cold.

Yet, If I Want To See Buscema Tarzan...
Mykal - Power is the word. It's one thing to mimic the lines an artist created, but Gallego seems to have made those lines his own, they seem natural.
ReplyDeleteDavey - My pleasure. Tarzan is a great character and one who has influenced so many of the things I love to dabble in. I have more Tarzan stuff forthcoming before the summer is out.
