Batman began alone. Just bitter Bruce Wayne waging his relentless war on crime. Then he got a Batmobile to make tooling around Gotham in pursuit of sundry thugs easier. Then he got a Robin to give someone for him to talk to, so he didn't seem quite as nutty as he actually was. And before long Batman had a belt full of gimmicks to help confront the like of Hugo Strange, the Penguin, the Joker, and the like.
And then in Detective Comics #60 in the story "The Case of the Costume-Clad Killer" where he battles the Joker yet again, he got arguably one of the most iconic bits of equipment associated with the "Darknight Detective" -- he got a Bat-Signal!
And now I've got one too. One of my Christmas presents was the tiny but workable Bat-Signal seen above. It's only a few inches tall (if that) but it can project a beam across a room of at least fifteen feet (I've tested it). The Bat-Signal comes with a tiny booklet which fills in the uninformed about Batman's origins, his equipment, his rogues gallery and more. I rest easier knowing that in the case of an emergency I just like Commissioner Gordon can call on the services of the Batman to give aid and assistance. Albeit he'll need to be exceedingly close.
Rip Off
I've got that very same Bat-Signal, bought last year sometime. It's a great wee thing.
