Kull Of Atlantis!

Before there was Conan of Cimmeria there was Kull of Atlantis. What follows are some wonderful pages from Savage Sword of Conan #3.

I'll let Roy Thomas explain in this caption. (Despite the third person, we all know this is Roy, right.)

"Exile from Atlantis" was first published in 1967 in the Lancer paperback collection of Kull stories. The sequence above shows the latter half of that brief tale of Kull's early days.

And just for fun's sake here's a snapshot of Roy and Barry at just about the time they produced this rough gem. The picture was taken at the 1973 New York City Comic Art Convention.

  1. I have this issue of SSOC but forgot the Kull pages were intended for a paperback. Some nice pages . I think Gil Kane did something similar.

    1. Kane did indeed create a fantastic paperback titled "Blackmark". The first paperback was published but the second one had to wait for Marvel to put it into some of their black and white magazines.

    1. BWS was a limited but still very exciting artist in earliest days.
