Go Ape Or Go Home!

After a brief respite, the Dojo returns in full force this weekend. First up will be a return engagement with that highly entertaining and sometimes bewildering Planet of the Apes franchise. In those olden bygone days when science fiction on the both the big screen and the small one was relatively rare, we had the Apes.

Also on tap will be a look at some of Gene Roddenberry's less successful projects following this epic creation Star Trek, such as the ill-fated Genesis II and the very promising The Questor Tapes.

Expect more Star Trek reviews as my attention turns toward the cinematic version of Gene Roddenberry's storied franchise. The phasers will be set on stunning as we take a gander at Captain James T. Kirk and crew matching wits with wayward space probes, forgotten superhuman dictators, the mother of all whales, emotional Vulcans, and assorted irritated Klingons.

Rip Off

  1. Did you know that Planet Of The Apes recently returned to Marvel Comics for the first time since 1976? POTA #1 was published last month and the story is set in the same universe as the recent movie trilogy (but I haven't read it so I can't say if it's any good or not).

    1. No I didn't know that. Serendipity strikes again. I thought the new trilogy was smart and there is much to appreciate about the story, but it lacked the pure fun of the classic PotA.

  2. It's good to have you back. One of the less discussed, more bizarre Roddenberry shows is 1977's Spectre. Just in case it's not on your radar, you'd probably enjoy it..similar in some ways to Marvel's Gabriel, Devil Hunter.

    1. I don't own a copy of it, but I have found it on Youtube. It was on my schedule, but it got knocked off for time. Maybe I'll have to rethink that given your recommendation.
