While I likely am not going to be getting this
Justice Inc. series, I might pick up the debut issue sporting this delightful Alex Ross swipe of Joe Kubert's exceedingly memorable cover for the "1st Sensational Issue!" of DC's brief but potent attempt to put Street and Smith's
The Avenger into comics form.
Justice Inc. was written by Denny O'Neil and drawn by the Jack "King" Kirby, something the powers at DC weren't interested in hyping at this time. Oy vey.

Wow! That is one glorious swipe. They both even have June cover dates!
ReplyDeleteWith DC though back then, the cover date actually meant something about when the book might appear. With Dynamite it's anyone's guess.

This I'll have to buy!
ReplyDeleteI might get this one issue, maybe. The cover is awesome.

Yup, definitely the first issue. Like you, I doubt I'll buy any others.
DeleteI don't think Kirby started until the second issue. For some reason, the name of Al McWilliams comes to mind. It was weird to see Kirby doing essentially journeyman (though pretty good) work on something he didn't actually create, considering how his arrival at DC in the 70s had been trumpeted. They had no idea what a resource they had in him. At DC or Marvel.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. I can see the McWilliams pages in my minds eye now. Thanks for the correction.
