Nick Cardy RIP
I awoke to the sad news that veteran artist Nick Cardy has passed away. Cardy's creamy art graced hundreds of comics over the decades. Cardy, born Nicholas Viscardi, had a distinctive style which had flair and seem to shimmer on the page. His people were beautiful and idealistic renderings but nonetheless had a soft identifiable humanity about them. Cardy was the main cover artist for many of DC's comics when I first discovered the company many many moons ago. His vibrant memorable covers are often what I think of first when I reflect on those times.
Farewell Mr.Cardy and thank you.
Below are some favorite Nick Cardy covers.

I made a tribute banner at the GSBAMB but I didn't use any of the same covers as you did. Just more proof that he made so many great ones.
ReplyDeleteI picked some that were faves and which if you notice share some themes. There's a bunch more as you say, a bounty of riches.

All of his covers were amazing, not just the superhero titles. Here is one of my favorites, that I picked up a few weeks ago. http://www.dcindexes.com/features/database.php?site=dc&pagetype=comic&id=12383
ReplyDeleteI gathered some of the other genres (which I might use later), but stayed mostly with superheroes because I think Cardy's work in that genre displayed such hope and a real sense of heroism.
DeleteYou example is quite...ahem...yummy!
