Space Busters!

Here's a tasty bit of that old Kirby magic which showed up here where there is much more detail. Never heard of the Space Busters, but the scenes below sure look exciting. Apparently this strip morphed into Sky Masters.

  1. Apparently the trademark of the 1952 Ziff-Davis series had expired when Kirby came up with the concept.
(If only he had illustrated the Jerry Siegel-edited 2-issue comic!)
Sky Masters was a much more "realistic" series displaying "day after tomorrow" technology.
I wonder if some of the material from Kirby's concept ended up being adapted into Race for the Moon stories?

As to the earlier comic book...
SpaceBusters was a war comic set in the future.
Think of it as a less-sophisticated version of Starship Troopers, sorta "Sgt Fury or Sgt Rock in Space" with "spacebusters" being slang for front-line soldiers, much like "dogface" or "leatherneck"!
Interestingly, it featured a woman (albeit a noncombatant) as part of the front-line team.
