There's no doub that the Living Planet Ego is one of Jack Kirby's most awesome creations. That noble face slapped onto a complete friggin' planet is just about one of the most gobsmacking images ever cobbbled together by the "King".
After seeing the latest
Guardians of the Galaxy movie I was struck by how much of Kirby's classic imagery of the geography of Ego actually made it into the movie. The filmmakers seem clearly to have seen the double-page spread above.

I remember reading this in UK Marvel (MWOM) and was just spellbound by the story and imagery (Kirby was creating so many great images/ideas at his time) I haven't seen the new Guardians movie yet and wasn't aware Ego was in it, so nice to know.
ReplyDeleteEgo always blew me away. That face was awe inspiring. Alas there's not enough of that in the movie, but still there are some good Kirbyesque bits.
