THUNDER Agents - Best Of Wally Wood!
Here's an interesting volume scheduled to hit the stands in May. While we all know a who's who of the comic art world worked for Tower Comics in their brief but memorable existence (Gil Kane, Reed Crandall, Mike Sekowsky, Chic Stone, etc.), it's Wally Wood who was the architect and who remains the signature artist for the company. THUNDER Agents: The Best of Wally Wood gathers just his stuff, or at least a lot of it. I can find very little information on the contents of this twenty-five dollar hardback volume.
The cover is from one of Wood's most dramatic images, if an equally illogical one. Dynamo descending through the atmosphere assaulted by a jet fighter is properly exciting, but violates much of what we know about the physical world even with the impossibilities suggested by the Thunder Belt. But then of course so did Dynamo himself for that matter.
Here's a sweet look at the original which last sold for well over twenty grand.

Gotta love Wally Wood. His redesign of Daredevil alone makes him awesome, let alone everything else. Love those Tower comics. Can't see much reason to buy this book as I already have the complete Tower THUNDER Agents.
ReplyDeleteWho said comics covers had to make sense?
Me too. But I'll have to check out the reproduction. The reprints have been wonderfully happy to have for convenience, but some of the IDW books have looked a little grainy.

Yeah had them all too back in the day, but nice to know those 25 cent memories still can grab us to this day.
ReplyDeleteTwenty-five cents when that meant something truly special and exciting, something extra. Added value is hard to find these days, really hard to find.
