Happy New Year to one and all.
It's that time when we should reflect on what has been and cast our hopes forward for what might be. This past year has been by and large a pretty good one for me and mine. Stability at long last has settled in after several years of economic and medical turmoil. My wife and my daughters seem pretty happy and that makes me really happy.
As for the Dojo, there are some fun things coming up this year. I've been invited to do a little writing in another venue and as part of that project you will see some of the fruits of the research here. That's properly obscure, but suffice it to say it fits in perfectly with what already is the norm.
I had thought I might cut down on my posts here during the past year and that has indeed been the case, but still something new has appeared each day. I'd imagine that will continue in the coming year also. Over this past year too I've been letting my personal opinions invade the Dojo more and more, and I hope this doesn't upset anyone. I don't mean to be exclusive in expressing my opinions, but sometimes events demand a response and this happens to be my forum. I won't abuse it, as that's not the purpose of this blog, but I don't doubt I'll have something to remark upon as the year unravels.
All in all it's been a pretty good 2014 and I look forward to 2015 for more of the same.

Happy New Year to you, Rip - your comment about "medical turmoil" makes me thankful that in the UK we've got universal free health care but we've also got plenty of conniving politicians so how long it will last is another matter.
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky folks in these United States because we have pretty good insurance, so weren't made destitute by the necessary operations, but still many are not so lucky. As to health care, we now have established the principle that the federal government can regulate insurance company policies (so they aren't useless cash grabs) and we have set up expectations that people cannot be refused insurance because of pre-existing conditions. These "perks" are not going away, they are too popular.
DeleteI live in Kentucky, the one state which has done the best job if implementing the national program and lots of folks in my state love what they're getting but don't realize it's part of the dreaded "Obamacare" which they have been trained to hate without regard to its virtues.
The conversation has been changed here from whether fixes will be made to what kind of fixes there will be. That's a giant step in a country overwhelmed by big money interests which own large portions of our government.
Sigh. Ranted a bit there. Sorry.

ReplyDelete:D let me just congratulate you, and say how envious I, as a single advanced-age person with no family or significant other(s) who's functionally, long-ago and willingly given up his childred hopes/dreams of a career or even just an association within some aspect of the creative arts (ie: film, directing, stories, comics, etc), how envious and yet proud I am on hearing that someone (ie: *you* ;D) has been able to...make good(?), and is able to publish and share their thoughts in a manner that I haven't been able to do so myself :)
It *is* a good year, filled with many good things to come, and I wish you all the best with the rest of your ventures...it's a rare thing to have your ambitions fulfilled while also having loved ones and like-minded associates around to support & encourage you and help you develop :D
