Green Hornet Alert!
The SyFy network is playing Green Hornet on TV all day today. It looks like all 26 episodes of the vintage TV series are showing up.
I'm very much in luck as I'm off work today and despite some grading I need to get done, I'm taking the day off and relishing one of the grand superhero shows of the 60's. I hope you all can clear off some time to join me.
Here's a link to SyFy's schedule for the day. And here's a link to the Green Hornet episodes.
And for good measure, here's the greatest opening in the history of television!
UPDATE: I took the day and idly watched Green Hornet episodes galore. I've got a few more to catch on DVR, but I watched the vast majority. It's been decades, if ever since I've seen some of these. They are simply great, the early ones in particular. The pacing is outstanding! And the mood on the early ones is very noir. Later episodes get a bit offbeat, but all in all quite fun.
Rip Off
Hoo-hah! Thanks for the heads-up, Rip! DVR, get ready to roll!
ReplyDeleteShouldn't that be "Let's roll, DVR!"???
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, SyFy is well-known for (ahem) "editing" older tv shows, especially if they have to fit into a half-hour slot.
(Before the 1980s, shows ran 26 minutes for a half-hour series with 4 minutes of commercials. Now, they're 22-23 minutes per half-hour with 7-8 minutes of commercials, and that's what SyFy edits to fit.)
There have been exceptions, but SyFy expands the timeslot to 40 minutes per episode to keep the same amount of commercials. They're not doing it here. ;-(
For those in the Midwest (Chicago & Milwaukee) Me-TV is also running a marathon on Saturday the 15th. They edit far less (if at all).
If you thought that was good, you should see the eps uncut.
ReplyDeleteWait, you CAN!
By sheer coincidence, I posted uncut (except for the teaser and synopsis segs in the two-parters) at http://heroheroinehistory.blogspot.com/search/label/YouTube
They're from the Encore Action airings a couple of years ago. No annoying popups, no commercials.
The pacing and flow are much better than the edited eps SyFy ran.
And, on Friday, I'm posting the complete 1974 feature film compiled from the tv series if you want a heavy dose of Bruce Lee!
That looks great. Thanks for the link. I'll be checking these out.
ReplyDeleteRip Off
