Wally & Wayne!
Above is the wonderfully evocative cover for a collection of Wally Wood's Marvel stories. It's an offbeat collection, not published by Marvel, but featuring not only Wood's distinctive fantasy stories but also his Doctor Doom work from Astonishing Tales. I discovered a copy of this oddball at Mid-Ohio Con a few years ago and despite its somewhat musty condition found it a very entertaining tome.
The look on Wood's face is calm and collected, not a feeling he actually had very often unfortunately, according to what I've read.
And that's Wayne Howard above, looking a wee bit startled by Arachne's unusual pet. I didn't realize this, but it was pointed out here that Howard used himself as the model for this character on the cover of Midnight Tales. Thanks for the heads up on this detail Steve.
Rip Off
Wood actually caricatured himself a lot on his stories over the years, as well as doing a number of self portraits like the one seen here.
