A Day In The Anti-Life - Parade Pest!
So now it's a military parade to celebrate the awesomeness of the great and powerful Trump, he of the bigger button! As America searches for its collective spirit, the last thing these United States need is yet another arbitrary spectacle to celebrate the "Military Industrial Complex". Supporters of this notion will trot out a lot of bogus bullshit about how this is really celebrating our veterans and our troops in the field. Well, if that were the case, the money spent on this boondoggle could be spent on bonuses for military families of soldiers currently on patrol in Afghanistan (ending that ongoing conflict would be an actually worthy impetus for such a parade) and elsewhere across the sprawling globe. Put some money in their pockets and don't waste a dime on making the U.S. more like France on Bastille Day. (I remember when dopes renamed French Fries and gave the world "Freedom Fries" because we imagined the French were not sufficiently bellicose in compliance with American wishes. That was stupid then, and this is stupid now.)
I'm a big believer in the policy of "Walk softly and carry a big stick." That idea, promoted by another President from long ago (a man who really was filled with physical courage unlike "Cadet Bone spurs" - our current Coward-In-Chief) spoke to the clear idea that someone with might does not need to advertise that strength. Those who have a need to fear what the United States can do are well aware and the less we bray about our massive, unprecedented batteries of weapons, the better it is for all involved. This kind of weak-kneed braggadocio is just the kind of prattle that makes people think you're weak. It's a tell, a sign that the perception of power might not be as advertised. (Just like when a person feels the need to say he is like really smart, perhaps even a very stable genius) If you think the peace of the world is reliant on the presence of the United States military might, then it is on the far-flung fields of that world which will showcase that and not the peace-loving streets of these United States. The U. S. military is built and designed to be deployed overseas, not to be polished up and rolled down the avenues of Washington, D.C.
But from what I hear, this is going to happen. Like the Super Bowl, another American spectacle of violence, I'll be giving it a pass. I don't need to see tanks and missiles rolling down main street to know that the United States has more than enough military might to stave off any threat. Those who claim otherwise are shilling for industries who only thrive when the world quivers with fear. Blowing up the world once is ample and being able to do it multiple times seems more than adequate to me. To those who suggest to object to a parade is to demonstrate a lack of patriotism, I say fuck off. Patriots show who they are each and everyday when they struggle to find a way to make it possible for every American to vote, when they spend their own time to make sure every American can eat and be warm, when they put their lives on the line defending their fellow men and women from foreign attack, not by standing and cheering the latest high-tech marvel from General Dynamics Land Systems.
The fetishism which permeates these conversations can be revealing. Desiring the "biggest" and "most" is a sign of someone who spends his "executive time" measuring his fingers or his little president and wondering if any of it is truly big enough to fill the void in his soul. We don't need a military parade just so the Donald can attempt to woo the First Lady one more time in their stormy relationship.

It all just reminds me that old Wally Wood EC story where the crowd beat up a bystander for not saluting the parade, only to find out in the last panel that he was blinded in the war.
ReplyDeletePeople love to glamorize war and make it a show. The ones least eager to do that are generally the warriors themselves, who want the respect they are due and a peaceful land in which to recover what they might have lost. When the Republicans cast aside John McCain and mocked John Kerry they showed what they really think of the men and women who put their lives on the line for this land. No parade, no matter how bright and loud will cover up that shame.

I’m a Navy veteran (1978-1982). I never ceased to be amazed that the biggest hawks in our Government – are always these privileged, saber-rattling fools who have never served themselves.
ReplyDeleteAs a guy who did not serve in the military I'm always hesitant to weigh in on these issues. But as an American who respects soldiers for doing what I did not do, but who thinks we have a military which is much too large for our defense purposes, I am amazed at the way non-Vets are so eager to put someone else in the bulls eye.

Took at look at the 2017 Bastille Day parade Trump raved about.

No more than four at a time of any sort of tank!
Lots of troop transports, emergency/medical vehicles, engineeering corps transports, and, of course, marching servicemen from all branches!
NO missiles!
But Don the Con doesn't want that!
He wants a May Day parade with hardware aplenty!
It's not to pay respect to the troops!
It's to give the overcompensating Cheeto Benito some phallic symbols to replace his lost "manhood"!
Just wait until he starts talking about a new holiday to have this rolling gun show. Once we have one, he'll want to have it again and again and again. There's not bottom to this guy.

Oh, give the little boy a break. He's just jealous that Kim Jong Un gets to take his toys out play with them and wants to do the same. And you know how badly he needs to compensate. He probably doesn't even realize that he's emulating folks like Hitler, Stalin, Idi Amin, etc.,.
ReplyDelete(Of course, if big cars indicate small penis, i'm pretty sure this sort of thing is an indication of complete dicklessness)
He's no student of history for certain. I doubt he has any interest in any part of the world which existed before he was born.
