A Day In The Anti-Life - Holy Shit!
Sigh. My president is a racist. That's not a surprise to me at all, he's on record many many times saying things which would have demolished the careers of almost any other politician in these United States. For a full listing check out this. But his latest outburst about "shithole countries" is yet again a new low as it combines the ugliness of racism with the coarseness of language (once again normalizing what was once abnormal) and demonstrating a stunning lack of self-awareness or even a mote of decorum. Not only is our "so-called" President a racist, he's a brazen and reckless racist who appears incapable of keeping his gutter attitudes hidden in the shadows where such notions usually creep about.
I keep trying to ameliorate my attention to these matters with escapist distractions, but this kind oafish nonsense demands a response from every reasonable American. Those who are twisting themselves into pretzels to try and explain away this ugly nonsense are even more vile than the dolt who occupies the oval office. He's a stupid and ignorant man who has evidently refused to learn about the world in all the many many years he's been gifted with. Those who serve him know better and are craven opportunists who need to recognize that enough of this is enough.

…and of course - now he’s back-pedaling and never said any of this. Reuters describes the full quote as: ““Why do we want all these people from Africa here? They’re sh*thole countries ... We should have more people from Norway.” He’s a disgusting and vile excuse for a human being – and, oh yeah – Leader of the Free World…
ReplyDeleteA bigot and now once again a lying bigot. One commentator said he was "evil". I've not entertained that word up until now, but I'm beginning to think it's so.

Here in the UK the big news story this morning is Trump cancelling his visit to London to open the new U.S. embassy. He claims he disapproves of the new building but we all know he's terrified of the huge demonstrations he'd face here. Last January Prime-Minister Theresa May invited Trump to Britain for a state-visit with all the pomp and ceremony such a visit entails. But that state-visit has been quietly dropped and now even Trump's low-key visit to open the U.S. embassy has been dropped too. George W. Bush came here on a state-visit despite lots of protests but Trump is far too immature and thin-skinned to do the same.
ReplyDeleteAnd on this end, he's blaming Obama for his "refusal" to go, saying the former president's decision to move the embassy was foolish. Since it was Bush who actually made that decision for a host of security reasons, it seems that yet again Trump is a know-nothing dolt.

Great people , great country. awful leader - the US people will have the last word on Mr Trump - nuff said!
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray you are right about that. The racist stream in the U.S. is always there, but I'm hoping that by Trump picking the scab we will excise much of it for a good long while. As Churchill is quoted to have said, we do the right thing only after every other avenue has been explored.

After eight years of fawning over Obama, the guy who constantly flipped birds while pretending to scratch his chin, the media are suddenly concerned with propriety and etiquette.
ReplyDeleteTrump may or may not have said "shithole countries." But the "reporters" claiming it are the same people who lapped up the story that he watches videos of gorillas fighting 17 hours a day.
If he said it, it was in a private meeting, where only adults were present. And, "racist" or not, the term is 100% accurate when talking about Haiti, Nigeria, and at least 2/3 of the countries on this planet.
Now we have the spectacle of the media using the word over and over in public broadcasts.
CNN's Chris Cuomo whined that it was "a bad word," and "I don't want my kids to hear it, and I don't want your kids to hear it."
So he repeated it about 5000 times, and brought out a whiteboard and wrote it. On prime time TV, where his kids could see and hear it.
Well, his kids, and the other half dozen people who still watch CNN.
BTW, I looked up "racist" in Webster's, and it does not mean "common sense, reasonable immigration reform." Or "merit-based immigration policy." And it does not mean anyone who disagrees with CNN about anything.
I've noticed that folks who "defend" the President's racist remarks invariably attack those who report on them. They don't really debate the reality of those remarks (private or not doesn't make them less racist) but point to how others overstep. Sure, CNN did seem to love to say "shit hole" a lot, but what's that got to do with the core evidence that Trump is a racist. Whatever you might think about immigration doesn't speak to the dark thoughts the President harbors and gives voice to on a regular basis. Trump is a racist, that's the plain truth and any "reasonable" person fitted with "common sense" can see it. Now dealing with it is another matter entirely.

Y'know, it's astounding how hard he works to make this place into a "shithole country".
ReplyDeleteOf course, that makes sense - after all, he spends half his time decrying those nasty Hollywood people, and the other half trying to be one of them.
Hmm...
Now i've got this Forrest Trump cartoon in my head... "Evil is as Evil does"
