Fin Fang Foom is just the best comic book monster ever! When Stan and Jack and Dick concocted this woeful ancient Chinese dragon they hit a homer. Aside from the weird underwear, Foom proved to be a truly strange monstrosity and no less so because unlike so many of them he could speak and speak eloquently. It's that latter quality which elevates among the ranks of Marvel monsters.
I first encountered Fin Fang Foom in the pages of
Fantasy Masterpieces and so imprinted on the orange version and not the original green.

He was orange on the interior pages, you'll be relieved to know. Marvel often colored their monsters differently on the covers; I wonder if it was deliberate.
ReplyDeleteLet me get this straight -- Fin Fang Foom was orange inside Strange Tales #89? I never knew that. When he's made appearances in years since, sometimes he's green and sometimes he orange. I'm getting the second Kirby Monsterbus in a few weeks and I'll own that story yet again.

ReplyDeletePretty sure they're using the original color schemes.
