This oddball Kirby poster was part of the early offerings from the ill-fated
Marvelmania International organization which took over from the beloved
Merry Marvel Marching Society. Seeing his work used for such promotional efforts without extra remuneration was a key sticking point for Kirby who felt more and more put upon as his stint at Marvel weathered on.
This image was the cover for
Captain America #106, a powerful in-your-face image by Kirby and inker Frank Giacoia.
Here it is in its pure raw form. It's a masterpiece of composition to my fanboy eye.
