The President Who Came In From The Cold!

The news just keeps getting better and better. Not only is it becoming evident that the Russkies hacked the Democratic National Committee and funneled the results of those hacks through the wild west worldwide web outlet of Wikileaks, it seems the incoming President doesn't even believe that happened. (My new measure of how true something is might well be to what extent does Trump disbelieve it. Not perfect, but looking to be often reliable.) When it comes to the former Soviet Union, our incoming leader is just okay with whatever they do, or so it appears.

As I write this we have Trump himself, who trades compliments with the savage Putin, and we have countless new American oligarchs getting posts inside the administration. What's most ironic is that  as is often the case with these "heroes of the workers" it's the workers who suffer the most. (What's with all the hating on unions for instance...sheesh.) As the United States mumbles along in the coming year anticipate amazing tax cuts for the "haves" and not inconsequential tax increases for the "have-nots" and soon to "have-even-less". They won't have to worry about buying health insurance because apparently the plan to repeal and replace has been cut in half and only the first half of the long-bragged-about mythic plan is now operative. So it's back to going to the Emergency room for basic health care at ten times the price, a price we will all eat in our steadily increasing premiums. (I bet they sill blame Obama for it though...just saying.) I'm just waiting for word that medicare is going to go private and that medicaid is going away entirely.

The folks who happily voted for the great and powerful Trump are about to have an exceedingly rude awakening as the Tweeter-In-Chief spends his time watching "the shows" and ignoring the problems of the world. Ensconced in the phallic celebration named Trump Tower he will hover above the fray free of the nagging problem of facts and details.

I suspect folks will want a change in four months, but we're stuck with this mope for four years. Democrats need to get busy. If they can't win after four years of unplugged Republicanism then we are well and truly screwed.

  1. Right on, Rip! Where's the Global Peace Authority and Brother Eye when we need them?!

    1. Instead I have to rely on my own senator, the laconic Mitch McConnell to finally do the right thing and investigate this thing his own GOP leader says without qualm did not happen. Yikes! We might be screwed.

  2. No doubt. This is a reckless Freak Show out-of-bounds – and in about 6 weeks it’s only going to get crazier. Even Graham and McCain are expressing we need this Russian voter hack looked into…The clown has taken only 3-4 Security Briefings since August (they are offered to him daily.)… A very dangerous, incompetent, narcissistic dick and we just seated him at the most powerful desk in the World. God help us ALL…

    1. Now that the Republicans have their control of Congress safely in hand maybe, just maybe they'll exercise some control over this guy.

  3. Over here in the UK Trump is regarded as a laughing stock - Reagan and George W got ridiculed too but Trump is in a different league. I was listening to a radio show on the BBC a couple of days ago and the audience were booing the mention of Trump's name...and he isn't even president yet. American democracy looks like a farce when Hillary Clinton got nearly 3 MILLION more votes than Trump but still lost. If I was living in Eastern Europe I'd be really worried that Putin will invade and his puppet Trump will do nothing. And post Brexit the British government is desperate to do trade deals with any other country outside the European Union so we will have to endure the humiliation of the UK government grovelling before Trump and begging for his favours.

    1. Trump starts out as the most unpopular President in modern history and it's just going to get worse as he plods along. If you're not part of NATO you better cover your ass for certain.

  4. The transition back to normalcy can begin in two years, when numerous Repug Congressmen (Senators & Representatives) are up for re-election!
That's presuming Trump isn't impeached or flees like Sarah Palin did from office by that point!

    1. I hadn't considered the Palin maneuver; that's always a possibility with this unprecedented fellow. As for the elections, gerrymandering makes changes unlikely in any real sense. It's going to take a decade, maybe two in my opinion to unravel the control of state houses and get districts realigned. Sigh.

  5. This whole situation seems so comic book-like, especially when you look at his cabinet picks. Keith Olbermann compared them to Batman villains, and Matt Taibbi dubbed them "the League of Extraordinary Assholes". For some reason, I'm reminded of the Silver Age story where Superman is exposed to Red Kryptonite and is turned into a baby. He's a baby, but he's Superman, but he's a baby! But...

    1. I deal with teenagers all day long and I have to say that many of Trump's responses seem like adolescent tantrums thrown by kids who haven't done their homework, know they're not ready for the test and use misbehavior to distract attention from their lack of preparedness. But I could go with a baby too.

  6. It's all like a bad dream. I wish I could just pinch myself and wake up. Our only hope is that he gets impeached and removed. Not that Pence would be much better.

    1. Pence is running more of this show than folks realize now. Kasich revealed that when he was offered the VP spot it was with the proviso he'd be pretty much in charge as "The Donald" wasn't all that keen to really work that hard. We have a Bush-Cheney situation with a worse Cheney and a hideous Bush.

  7. Yep I remember that. Trump's son told Kasich he would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy and that Donald would be in charge of "making america great again." Trump doesnt like to do his homework or any work really

  8. You liberals are so funny. Look at the map of the election, county by county. Big Democratic cities are all that voted for that criminal Clinton. Americans, by the largest chunk of geography by far, do not want more of progressive failures. Remember, a large, large part of the country is laughing at you now. Quit crying, you babies.

    1. Read 'em and weep amigo. Clinton was a bad candidate but the mighty Trump was only able to barely beat her (and didn't win the popular vote). Don't look for crying here, just the wisdom to know that bullshit walks, it always does, but sometimes it takes a while.

See ya' in a year or so.
