These vintage
Jerry Lewis comics from theold DC are uproarious artifacts from a time when comic books were an essential part of the fabric of the culture. I'm mildly flabbergasted that DC blended this incredibly famous real-life comedian with their iconic heroes so easily. This stunt today would be hyped and promoted within an inch of its satiric value, but back then it was just the next issue.
Many if not all of these fantastically zesty covers are by the criminally underrated
Bob Oksner. I doubt there's much chance these utterly charming blasts from the past will ever be reprinted, but it would be very cool indeed.

These were fun, cool comics. But tough to locate. Along with the Bob Hope comics, offered lots of fun for the reader. I wouldn't be adverse to reading a few of these if I found some. Time to scour the dollar bins!!
ReplyDeleteThese and the Bob Hope books are uproarious and I'd buy a collection. I suppose licensing and limited fan interest holds them back. Some great artwork in these.

Of course the obstacle in reprinting these is getting (or purchasing) permission from Jerry himself.
