Savage Staton!
Joe Staton is on my short list of all-time favorite comic book artists, and almost certainly the only one who is even remotely my age. I've been collecting up his work at Charlton, Marvel, DC, and elsewhere for decades. I even bought Scooby-Doo for a long time because of Joe's involvement.
One aspect of Joe's work which gets little attention is the raft of illustrations he did for science fiction magazines, specifically those issues of Amazing and Fantastic edited by Ted White. The illustration above is not from that run, but it does remind me of the work he did for those books.
In a most recent issue of Sanctum Books Doc Savage, Joe got to try his hand at illustration again, specifically becoming the first artist in decades to create new spot art for a classic Lester Dent Doc Savage tale. "The Swooning Lady", one of the last Doc adventures published somehow went to press sans any artwork by Ed Cartier who was the regular at that time. To fill that void in the recent reprint, Anthony Tollin got Joe to produce three wonderful pieces, one a vivid full-pager.
If you're a Joe Staton fan, you might want to snag a copy of the magazine above. The art is lush, and the story is actually a darn entertaining and snappy one.

I've been a Joe fan forever it seems. I fell in love with his early bubbly style and have followed him off and on since. He has quite a range of stuff out there that gets little mention.
