Fab Four Flick!
Here's an intriguing poster image for a Fantastic Four movie. I found it here.
But the odd thing is, it's not for these guys.
It's for these guys.
This is the Fantastic Four line-up in Roger Corman's misbegotten and never-released-in-my-neighborhood-at-least FF movie.
Here's the trailer.
It looks like parts of it might be fun, and it looks like the production has stayed pretty close to the material. But still, it looks rather sad.
Whatever qualms I might have about the new modern FF movies, all I have to do is take a gander at this version and I count my blessings.
On a somewhat different note, it appears to my eye that John Romita Sr. might've had something to do with the artwork on this poster. The Torch especially looks like a Romita figure to me. What do you all think?
Rip Off
This particular FF movie was made for very little money and in a very short shooting schedule (obviously) and was actually never intended to be released at all. The sole purpose was to retain the rights for several more years so that they could eventually make a proper FF film.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is they didn't tell the actors and crew that it wasn't intended to be released. There was, after all, a trailer made, posters in the trade pspers and I've read that the actors appeared in a parade to promote the supposed upcoming release of the film. It was all handled very badly. The film itself, while suffering from its miniscule budget, really is pretty good. Better than that 1990 CAPTAIN AMERICA picture!
ReplyDeleteI saw this on video that I got from a convention. For it's day it wasn't that bad but the special effects are not as good as the more current movies. If I can find the VHS you can have it if you want it.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys.
ReplyDeleteIt seems there was considerable confusion. My instinct tells me this movie probably was going to be released at some point, but they decided against it when they saw what the pittance they'd allotted had gotten them.
The 1990 Cap movie has a few virtues, but I agree it too was disappointing.
The thing is apparently on Youtube now, so thanks for the VHS offer Rick.

No, it never was intended to be released. I have the poster framed, I picked it up at Dragon Con many years ago.
