Talking about DC's Bronze Age yesterday brought to mind another of those fun and freaky series J.M. Dematteis dreamed up. The Creature Commandos might look like classic monsters of myth and movie, but they are actually good Americans looking for a way to contribute to the war effort. This was a hoot of a concept and made for some outstanding cover images by the Joe Kubert, Gil Kane and others.
Here is the team's appearance in DC's Who's Who series. George Perez handles the cover chores and Jerry Ordway drew the Commandos for this one-off appearance.
And someone must love these guys, because here the classic team is on a very recent Action Comics cover.
Now you've done it, I'd never seen these before, but now I want them.
ReplyDeleteThey are very cool aren't they. Something about those "Universal" lookin' critters that's just compelling.
