Soft Targets!
The little gallery below is one I put together in response to the furor over the recent tragic shooting in Tuscon. It's not the shooting I'm responding to, but the inflamed comments by the assorted rabble after the fact.
The suggestion by some blowhards that Sarah Palin's "targets" on a campaign materials triggered the shooting is nonsense. That such "hot" talk might indeed seed such a response seems logical enough, but the acts of individuals should remain such. Crime is the act of a person.
Liberals should not be making the media-affects-fragile-minds argument. I just hope that Conservative pundits remember that point when they blame video games or...gasp...comics for the crimes of assorted youth.
You can't have it both ways. Either these "Hollywood" techniques affect the minds of those more susceptible in our society or they don't. You cannot selectively suggest that either Conservative or Liberal messages exclusively do so.
So I hope that at long last we can put that hobgoblin to rest. The demise of the Comics Code suggests that as a society we've gotten more sophisticated about how we apprehend entertainment. But again, time will tell. I'm not holding out much hope.
Rip Off
Enjoy the gallery. Don't shoot anyone.
