I grew up watching Irwin Allen shows which used the same tired shots over and over. The design of the Martians and their surroundings were great....but I felt the spaceships were very amateurish. I watched it when it originally aired (having already read the book of short stories it was based on) and own the DVD released years ago. I watch it every few years.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15266894114950327846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8220285230636101823.post-24982430098532858752022-01-14T10:04:48.457-05:002022-01-14T10:04:48.457-05:00Agreed, those are wonderful scenes! After this watching the Martian as Jesus stands out. One cable station here in the states will play the thing over and over again during the holidays. It's replaced It's a Wonderful Life as a Christmas classic I think. To my mind, the highest of those high points is the adaptation of "Night Meeting" when Rock Hudson's character finally gets his wish to meet a living Martian, albeit through the slipperiness of Time. Their conversation, and the Martian's lovely, moving words about the proper way of life, one lived in harmony & humility with the world & with each other, resonates with me to this day.Tim Lukemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08798981858460277850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8220285230636101823.post-31096137258854018842022-01-14T08:34:54.355-05:002022-01-14T08:34:54.355-05:00I was watching Darren McGavin just a few days ago ...I was watching Darren McGavin just a few days ago in a film called 'A Christmas Story' which I'd never seen before (or even heard of). It's still available on iplayer (the BBC's streaming service) for a few more days so I'm thinking of watching it again.

I watched the whole of 'The Martian Chronicles' in 1981 I think but the only part I can remember is when the astronauts discover the "American" town. Whether that means I wasn't paying proper attention or it just wasn't memorable is open to speculation. I always thought Rock Hudson would've made a great Superman in his younger days. He'd have needed a padded Supes suit, but his face was perfect for the role, what with the square jaw and symmetrical features.Kidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224781868125924337noreply@blogger.com
