Mad Again After All These Years!

I picked up the new MAD magazine a few weeks ago and much to my surprise...I loved it. The magazine had a delightful heft, the paper stock was ideal and did a wonderful job of presenting the colors. For the first time really, I liked reading MAD in color. The magazine felt at once new and fresh but delightfully familiar.

So with the demise of so many of my regular comics, I've decided to once again become a devoted MAD man and have put the series on my regular list. It's really delightful to once again, after so many years, look forward to a new issue of MAD.

To get into a properly MAD mood, I've been digging out a bunch of tomes dedicated to the MAD-style of humor, especially the stuff by original MAD man Harvey Kurtzman. Expect a lot of MAD and Kurtzman material to pop up this month.

  1. I can grab my Mad issue out of my basement. No comic shop wanted them but I didnt have the heart to throw them away. Too many great memories reading them as a kid.

    1. I traded a bunch of them away many many years ago. I only have a few collections now and a random issue or two.

  3. I saw it in the South Whittier Library, for perusing rather than borrowing...:) Very good, with a long Riverdale and Superman pair of spoofs. (Also loved the previous, #550, which had a bathroom stall overhearing piece..:))SC

    1. The parodies were key to me liking this one. They seemed to have the magic. Sadly many parodies don't strike home with me since I often don't know the source material. This time was an exception.
