Singular Events!

This month is likely to be a hodge-podge of material. First up is arguably Jack "King" Kirby's most awesome creation, the almighty Galactus. Kirby embellished the story of Galactus several times in his tenure at Mighty Marvel and I've long wanted to read those classics again with an eye focused especially on the "Big G". Stan and Jack even tell the same story twice, as we'll see. Look for this stuff on the weekends in May.

Also in the month of May, we have the second part of the Jack Kirby First Issue Gallery. You can see the January gallery of Kirby first issues here. This time comics from 1970 to the end of Kirby's career in the 90's are featured.

And finally, this month kicks off a new feature here at the Dojo -- "100 Days Of The King". This daily post will for the next one hundred days (leading to the centennial celebration of the birthday of the great artist) will focus on some different great piece of magnificent artistry. There's so much to choose from to show the breadth and depth of Jack Kirby's contribution. Expect the expected and the unexpected each and every day (hopefully) as the summer marches along.

All this and a bunch of other stuff too. So button up for a somewhat random month of May as we let some singular events lead the way.

  1. With the focus on Kirby, this is your best year yet. :)

    1. The King brings out the best in everyone. I give you as example the much abused Vinnie Colletta. That's me, the Vince Colletta of comic book bloggers, loathed and relentless.

    2. Only an evil super villain who is unworthy of your time would loath you.

    1. The Kirby focus has been great fun. I never tried it for a year before.

  3. Keep going. Kirby is King. This summer is his 100th birthday I think. Would have been my dad's too, who, no kidding, looked and was built a lot like Jack (and also called Jack).
