Marvel 1976!

Here are some beautiful patriotic images from Marvel's bicentennial year.

January by Frank Robbins & Frank Giacoia

February by Herb Trimpe

March by Bob Brown

April by Gil Kane

May by Keith Pollard

June by Ross Andru & Mike Esposito

July by John Romita

August by John Buscema & Joe Sinnot

September by Sal Buscema

October by Frank Brunner

November by Jim Starlin

December by Jim Mooney

I've made my guesses about the talent on each month. If you spot something off, please let me know. I'd love to pin down who the artists are on these spiffy images.

  1. I know that September is just a catch-all-throw-in-everybody-else picture, but damn, if that were an actual superteam, I would read the hell out of that book.

  2. August was John Buscema (layout) and Joe Sinnott (pencils and inks).
With your permission, I'd like to use the July image on my blog on the 4th (with a link and attribution of course.)

  3. That is so cool! I wish the merchandise they sold these days was this good.

  4. Snell - Yeah, it almost like Defenders deluxe.

Britt - I suspected Buscema on that page, but the FF seem not quite his. Layouts only would explain that. Thanks.

Sure use them. I gathered these some years ago from some source I've long forgotten, so their free to a good home as far as I'm concerned.

Dave - I was in the habit of saving these kinds of things. What you do with them is a problem, but they're neat to have.

  5. Change "their" to "they're" in my previous post. Sheesh!
